The talks and plans to move forward with a Regional Fire Authority effort still continue, and have made great leaps towards an August 2010 election vote. Planning committee members are meeting monthly, with sub committee meetings taking place constantly to gather information, facts and figures to present to the citizens of the area. The Montesano Fire Department, Montesano City Council and Grays Harbor Fire District 2 have been sending members to meetings that have been taking place monthly to discuss the efforts of the RFA and possibilities it holds for the future. There are several separate committees that are presenting information to the body of the planning committee such as finance, infrastructure, public relations and Human resources. If you are a member of the community or want to contribute or learn more about the RFA, the meetings are open to the public and will be advertised to when and were they will be held through our website, the Facebook groups and soon the RFA website that has yet to be launched. |

September as a busy month for the district, as summer wrapped up new volunteers stepped in to help out. 3 of the new volunteers are brand new to the district and fire service, with the 4th a returning EMT that just recently took his paramedics test. The 3 new volunteers went through the whole process, the physical agility test, doctors physical, and the interview process. After all the pre processing was done the new volunteers went through a week long district orientation. The Orientation was held nightly and then all day Saturday and Sunday. 3 of the new new volunteers will be stationed out of Brady with the 4th at the Central Park Station. A big thank you goes out to all district members who helped out in September with the new orientation process. |

At 18:07 on October 1st Grays Harbor Fire District #2 was called to a structure fire at North Bank Road located in Central Park with flames and smoke showing.
Grays Harbor Fire District #2 responded with 3 engines, 1 water tender, 1 rescue, 1 medical unit and 1 support vehicle and 18 personnel. Montesano Fire Department provided mutual aid response with Ladder 9221 and 4 personnel.
Upon arrival of the first engine company; the structure (a 783 sq. feet detached multi level shop) was found to be 30% consumed by fire and it had already vented through the roof. Incident Commander Casey Novak ordered a defensive attack. Due to the large fire load of stored cut fire wood in the structure, it made it very difficult to get the fire 100% under control; until Vessy & Sons was brought in to help tear apart the very large wood storage stock.

This past Saturday, August 15th, district volunteers, Deputy Chief John Sliva and Brian Baldwin along with on duty paramedics James Kuchciak and John Delia looked good at the annual kids carnival and the Central Park Neighborhood Church. With the help of District Commissioner, Paul Dean, the staff added a great touch to the carnival bringing their fire engine and new medic unit for show and tell. The Volunteers ran a carnival game where youth would get a chance to handle a real fire hose in attempt to knock down a fire target to win prizes provided by the organizers of the event. One participant said that this year he noticed more kids than ever, which was a great opportunity for our district members to get out into our community and say Hi. During this event, staff also gave tours of the fire engine as well as the new medic ambulance that was on hand. The event was was held from 1 - 4 PM, with volunteers having a great time.
